I've moved...

I've got new digs. Please check out my new blog: the washing machines we flew.

Monday, June 29, 2009

I've decided that I'm going to move my blog over to wordpress. I'm still getting the details worked out--what to call it, what it should look like--but I hope you follow me over there! I'll let you know once it's up! And if you don't want me to go, well, here's your last chance to tell me to stay!

Haha, TV's so funny. But man, I loved that season of Dawson's Creek. She's got milk in that bag, I think.

Nothing too new

Except my hair. I did get that cut. Oh, and it's apparently "spring" here. We've jumped from 50s to 80s in about a day. This has completely thrown off my pansies that are growing in a pot on my balcony. I was worried for their health earlier today. But they seem to be ok now. Also attempting to grow some other flowers I picked up at the store. Came as a growing kit, so I'm skeptical of success. But it was only $5 and if they actually grow, we could use some prettiness.

Why? Because now my neighbors are building a second building on their lot. Means I get some pretty views of bulldozers and other equipment. Friday they poured cement in the foundation. That was exciting.

In other news, I'm taking a break from reading and checking out more comics. See below my most recent edition to the reading list. I did reread the two volumes of Angel: After the Fall before reading volume three for the first time--it had been a while and it certainly helped. But I won't count that in my reading list.

Books of 2009

Big Fish by Daniel Wallace
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
Nine Horses by Billy Collins
Death's Daughter by Amber Benson
Angel: After the Fall, Volume 3 (collection of comics)

It's nice to sit out on the balcony and read the comics, though. Despite the construction.

Oh, and saw 17 Again. Yes, go ahead and make fun, but I actually enjoyed it. It was much funnier than I thought it'd be. Plus, it even has some hot cars. But yeah, I quite enjoyed it. I'd even recommend it to others.

Finally, a picture. Took this while waiting for the train after my haircut in Coolidge Corner. Thought I'd share. Enjoy.

Happy belated Easter!

In my last few moments of my lunch break, I thought that I'd post and just tell everyone happy Easter. Sorry I didn't share the greeting yesterday! Oh, and I can't resist posting this video again (yes, it's the same as last year).

Man, I love that little guy.

Yesterday, Jack and I had Easter dinner with a small group of friends. We ate lots of food, microwaved lots of peeps, and I was forced to keep the lots of cake left. Said cake is now at work with two other cake friends from other parties.

I'm desperately hoping to see more little kids in little Easter outfits. Sadly, church yesterday really only had a couple girls in little pink dresses, and none of them even wore hats. We need to bring back the Easter hats, people. Hopefully my cousins will fill the void on Facebook later this week.

Not much else to report. Still in the middle of reading 2-3 different books, and I'm very tempted to stop in favor of the next few hardcover of Angel: After the Fall. Add Spike: After the Fall after that, and I've got some busy reading happening.

Alrighty, back to work. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekends. Please let me know how yours went! Stories are welcome (and wished for!).

Been a while

Hi all. So I know it's been a while since I've posted. I've found out that my other blog actually takes a lot of time throughout the week to post, so finding time to write about something here is harder. Well, maybe it's more about the fact that I have less exciting things going on than the drama of television (oh that's sad), and I just never know what to write about.

But I am planning on writing every time I finish another book, so here we go!

Books of 2009

Big Fish by Daniel Wallace
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
Nine Horses by Billy Collins
Death's Daughter by Amber Benson

Yeah, there's a big break there. But I am kind-of juggling books, so it means I'm taking longer to read both of the ones I'm juggling.

And yes, that last book is by that Amber Benson. You know, the one of Buffy fame? It was pretty good. If you're looking for a superb book of literature, it's not that, but if you're looking for some fun fantasy fluff to take on a plane, you're good to go. The cover is atrocious--I might play with my design skills and make up a new one--but the plot is interesting. The descriptions are nice (and sometimes horrifying), but I guess my one complaint beyond the cover is that the writing is a bit circa 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s all combined with references to "Not!" and "dipwad," among mentions of Kate Spade bags. I wouldn't have minded taking an editor's pen to it (I'm allowed to say that; I'm in publishing), but the story kept me interested and for a quick read, it was fun. I'd read a screenplay by Amber Benson before, which is why I decided to take the chance on this book, and I did enjoy it in the long run.

So what else happened since I've been away? I went to Philly with my friends. That was fun. The first time I've been to Philly and gotten out of the car (we drove through it when I was looking at Rosemont for a publishing program). I really had fun with them, though the travel was really stressful. Car rides really can seem longer than you'd think they'd be sometimes.

I also went home for my dad's birthday. That was fun. A long weekend at home. Of course it wasn't long enough, but I did get to see my family, some extended family, and family friends. Can't complain, right?

Last but not least, it's the first part of wedding season. In the next couple weeks, I'll have four friend married off--well, in their own couples. Stan and Amy get married this Friday, and Katie and JC are April 4, a week from Saturday. Sadly, I can't make it to either wedding (and don't think I'm not whining to Jack about that one...stupid recession), but I'm looking forward to stories and pics. Tons of them. And I fully intend to water up when looking at the pics (and that means you, Katie!).

I guess I must end this post with a picture, right? I'm trying to keep that a habit. So here's one from Philly. I tried to play with black and white photography while I was there, and I came up with some good shots. I don't think this is one of them, but for some reason I like it. I think it's the blurry nature. Anyway, here are my buds walking on the street at night. Feel free to tear it apart like savage beasts.

And with that, I shall turn back to the other two books I'm reading. Well, work first. Must make it to 5:00!
